About Eyelid Surgery

As you grow older, the loss of collagen and elastin from the skin can make the eyes look tired and old. The eyelids may also droop downwards, which can obstruct your vision or make your eyes seem puffy. Our eyelid surgery in NYC will allow you to achieve a more rested and youthful appearance, taking years of age off your eyes. Dr. Jeffrey Lisiecki performs a highly personalized eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty according to your unique anatomy and goals, ensuring naturalized results that hide signs of cosmetic work.

What is eyelid surgery, aka blepharoplasty?

An eyelid surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that lifts and rejuvenates the eyelids, making them look younger and more refreshed. The surgeon makes strategic incisions on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both to lift sagging skin tissues and reduce puffiness. The specific details of the surgery depend on whether you need an upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery, but the final goal is to make you look more rested and youthful.

Types of eyelid surgeries

Upper Eyelid Surgery (Upper Blepharoplasty)

Upper eyelid surgery, also known as upper blepharoplasty, is performed on the upper eyelids. The surgeon lifts and tightens the sagging skin tissues on the upper eyelids to address various cosmetic concerns, such as sagging eyelids, impaired vision, and hooded eyelids.

Lower Eyelid Surgery (Lower Blepharoplasty)

Lower eyelid surgery, also known as lower blepharoplasty, is performed on the lower eyelids. The surgeon makes strategic incisions to trim away excess skin tissues and remove fatty deposits from the region, thereby correcting dark undereye circles and puffy bags. Dr. Lisiecki’s personalized eyelid surgery technique

Dr. Lisiecki performs his highly personalized eyelid surgery in NYC at his state-of-the-art surgical center under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on your unique condition. He may perform upper eyelid surgery, a lower eyelid surgery, or both, depending on your unique needs and concerns. He will select the appropriate surgical plan during the initial consultation after a thorough evaluation of your facial anatomy and goals.

During upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes an incision within the folds of the upper eyelids, through which excess skin tissues and fatty deposits are removed. The underlying muscles and soft tissues are also tightened. During lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes an incision completely hidden inside the eyelid, through which excess fat cells are removed, and sometimes another right under the eyelash line through which the skin tissues are tightened, making the skin look smoother and firmer.

The incisions are always placed along the natural folds of the skin, so the scars are virtually invisible. The entire procedure concludes within 2 hours.

Recovery after an eyelid surgery

Dr. Lisiecki will ask you to apply eye drops to reduce itching and burning sensations around the eyes, and you will have to avoid contact lenses for two weeks. The sutures will be removed after a week. The post-treatment swelling, bruising, tenderness, blurred vision, and excess tearing will gradually dissipate within a few weeks. You can apply cold compresses to further minimize bruising. Most patients can resume work and normal activities within a week, but strenuous activities should be avoided for four weeks.
