What Is A Teen Rhinoplasty?
A teen rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job” or rhinoplasty, is a surgical treatment used to change the nose’s overall shape, size, or appearance. Teenagers in particular undergo this procedure, which is typically done to enhance the nose’s aesthetic appeal but may also be used to address structural issues that impair breathing.
What to Expect During the Teen Rhinoplasty Procedure
A teen rhinoplasty is quite similar to adult rhinoplasty and typically takes place while the patient is under general anaesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon will make incisions either inside the nose or at the base of the nose. These incisions will allow access to the underlying structure of the nose.
Once the surgeon has gained access to the interior of the nose, they will sculpt the bone and cartilage to alter the appearance of the nose, improve breathing, or fix certain congenital abnormalities based on the teens’ specialized needs.
Benefits of a Teen Rhinoplasty
Teen rhinoplasty has numerous benefits, including:
Fix Aesthetic Issues:
A teen rhinoplasty can be performed to alter the shape, size, or overall appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty can also be performed on either the upper or lower nose, or both.
Help With Breathing:
A teen rhinoplasty can help correct structural issues that may be affecting breathing such as deviated septum, among others.
Improve Confidence-Levels:
A teen rhinoplasty can provide a number of benefits for teenagers, including an enhanced appearance which can result in an improvement in their self-confidence.
Who is a Candidate for a Teen Rhinoplasty?
A teen rhinoplasty is not appropriate for every young person. Teenagers who meet all of the following criteria would make excellent candidates for teen rhinoplasty:
Age:
Since the nose is one of the last facial structures to fully develop, it is recommended that the patient wait until they have finished most of their facial growth before having rhinoplasty. This typically occurs between the ages of 15 and 17 for girls and 16 to 18 for boys.
Functional Problem:
Teenagers who have difficulty breathing as a result of a structural problem in the nose such as a deviated septum or a functional problem such as chronic sinusitis are good candidates for a rhinoplasty.
Good Health:
A young person who is able to go through the healing process properly after surgery and is in good physical health is an ideal candidate for the procedure.
In order to determine whether or not a teenager is a good candidate for a rhinoplasty and whether or not the procedure can help them achieve the results they want, it will be necessary for them to have a consultation with Dr. Lisiecki. During this time, the teen’s medical history, physical examination, goals and expectations, as well as the potential risks, benefits, and the recovery process, will all be evaluated.
