About Liposuction

Sometimes, it’s nearly impossible to remove excess and stubborn fat pockets from your body, despite your best efforts with dieting and exercise. If you’re struggling with the removal of stubborn fat pockets from your body, you might want to consider liposuction. This procedure literally suctions away excess fat cells from unwanted areas of the body, helping you achieve a more chiseled and contoured appearance. Dr. Lisiecki performs cutting-edge liposuction to extract excess fat cells while reducing the side effects and downtime.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves the physical extraction of excess fat cells from targeted regions of the body. The surgeon makes an extremely small incision on the targeted area and inserts a hollow cannula to suction away excess fat cells, making the region look slimmer and more contoured. Liposuction can be performed on various parts of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, flanks, chin, breasts, and more. Liposuction can only remove excess fat cells, so it’s not suitable for patients with excess skin laxity.

The benefits of liposuction:

  • Involves making an extremely small incision
  • Stubborn fat cells are suctioned away from the body
  • Makes the targeted area look slimmer and more contoured
  • The results are permanent — the fat cells can’t return

Dr. Lisiecki’s liposuction technique

Dr. Lisiecki performs the highly personalized liposuction at his state-of-the-art surgical center under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. He makes a small incision on the targeted area. The incision is an entry point for a hollow tube called a cannula, which delivers a sterile solution with an anesthetic and epinephrine into the area with excess fatty deposits.

The anesthetic component reduces pain, and the epinephrine minimizes bleeding and post-treatment bruising. The solution makes the fat cells swell and reduces blood flow to the area, thereby facilitating the easy extraction of excess fat cells with minimal bleeding. After extracting excess fat cells, the surgeon closes the incisions with sutures. The entire procedure concludes within 1-2 hours for most body areas.

Recovery after a liposuction

You will have to wear a compression garment on the treatment area after the procedure to minimize swelling and bruising. The most common post-treatment side effects include redness, swelling, discomfort, bruising, and tenderness in the treatment areas for a few days, with lingering swelling for several weeks. You can resume most of your daily activities within a week, but strenuous workouts should be avoided for four weeks.
